Lakanto was founded by Mr Shota Saraya from Japan, who in 1993 started processing monk fruit extract, and was the first ever business to deliver a monk fruit sweetener to consumers. Lakanto is the health food division of Saraya Global Hygiene, which was formed back in the 1960s by Mr Saraya himself.
